Approximately 21 miles north of the uptown center of Charlotte lies the city of Davidson. Its borders reach slightly into Iredell County to the north and abut the shores of Lake Norman, a large reservoir of the Catawba River which boasts 520 miles of shoreline and several marinas convenient to Davidson proper. Its founding and history are inextricably linked to Davidson College, established in 1837, (which predates the settlement) and even today its campus has influenced the charm of downtown that is dotted with top-rated restaurants and boutiques. From a situational standpoint, Interstate 77 passes through the western side of Davidson. You can also find yourself driving through meadow-covered landscapes native to the Piedmont Region within minutes of downtown. Davidson’s roots follow suit with other Carolina towns, which after the arrival of the railroad, became a shipping point for cash crops, especially cotton. Today, there’s a positive vibe of welcoming and growth. And various census results show commute times average 26 minutes to major employments center. Top employment comes from education, finance, and health care. Its median home price is just slightly above the national average.
