What is Your Favorite Part About Your Job?

My favorite part about my job is designing new home plans/options with 3 areas of focus: #1 Captive new home buyers. #2 Blend form, function, and affordability. #3 Recycle and renew by leveraging a current product or process in new ways.

What has been your favorite recent innovation with a floorplan?

To reinvent the Nottingham floorplan, we created a beautiful new Cottage elevation, huge Chef's Kitchen, Tranquility Bath, rear covered deck, basement cafe, home gym, and even more exciting features. It's rewarding to renew older plans and make them relevant for the needs and desires of today's home buyers. We have two Nottingham Model Homes coming up at the Sanctuary at Lititz Grove, Lititz PA (under construction), and McLean South Shore in the Charlotte NC area. Be sure to check them out!

Describe your favorite phase of the floorplan design process.

The initial challenge of a brand-new plan concept is always fun. Working to create something exciting while balancing all the design constraints such as: typical lot size and configuration, price point, square footage, target market, and developer/community requirements. Once a basic floorplan is established, I begin to develop roof line massing and elevation design, which I always enjoy. Often, our curb appeal is our first hello.

What is your main source of inspiration in design?

It’s hard to deny all the online design resources available today. Browsing Instagram, Pinterest and Google images is a daily occurrence for most designers. However, nothing beats traveling and experiencing homes and communities firsthand. You will always pick up ambiance and details that might be misleading and manipulated in print and online images.

What is your favorite floorplan and why?

My favorite floorplan is always the one I'm currently working on. Stay tuned!

Fun fact about you!

If I'm not training for a race/event, or off on a family adventure, you'll find me in the garage restoring my 1988 Land Rover Defender.
