Congratulations to Brandon Harner on 5 years with Keystone Custom Homes! As our Director of Engineering, his commitment to improving accuracy, efficiency, and the homeowner experience makes a lasting impact every day. Learn more about Brandon’s journey and the difference he’s made at Keystone.
What is something you are most proud of during your time with Keystone?
Rolling out a new company-wide drone program is the thing I’m most proud of. It has completely transformed how we design, build, and monitor our communities. What started as a tool I wanted to explore has now become a company-wide platform that gives us real-time visibility, reduces surprises during construction, and helps us design with a level of accuracy we simply didn’t have before. Watching designers, construction managers, and leadership use it every week, and seeing the tangible impact it’s already having, has been incredibly rewarding.
If you could build any floorplan, what would it be and why?
I’d build a Devonshire, and I’m actively trying to figure out how to make that a reality. We walked through one about five years ago, and my whole family has been campaigning for it ever since. I’m all about the basement possibilities, my wife loves the open kitchen and the flow of the first floor, and my kids only care about the dual-staircase “racetrack.”

What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is the mix of great people and genuinely meaningful work. I get to work with teams who truly care about doing things the right way, and that makes even the most stressful days feel manageable. I’m proud to be part of a mission that actually impacts families, and the amazing flexibility I have here has been a huge benefit for my own family. I also get a brief sense of accomplishment out of each settlement announcement. Hearing that another family is officially moving into their new home never gets old. And on top of that, any day I’m out flying drones or testing new tech feels like I’m getting paid to play with toys. When you put it all together, it makes this a job I’m genuinely grateful to have.
Describe your experience as part of the DR milestone trip!
The DR milestone trip was one of those experiences that shifts your perspective a little. Seeing “Profit for Purpose” firsthand gave me a real appreciation for the reach our work has. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day, but hearing the stories from HOPE International clients and seeing the impact up close made everything feel bigger, and honestly, more meaningful. It was humbling and motivating, and it reminded me exactly why what we do matters.
Fun fact about you!
I used to be an adrenaline junkie. I skydived, I scuba-dived, and I basically said yes to anything that required signing a waiver. One extremely questionable skydiving decision almost punched my ticket, and that pretty much ended my invincible era on the spot. Now my body hurts just from existing, and my weekends are spent with my wife and three daughters, safely planted on solid ground.
